Biography
Kirby Moses is a 22-year-old poet, multidisciplinary artist, and candid decolonial feminist. She is committed to advocating for gender and environmental justice. She holds a Diploma in Global Leadership from the UN University for Peace, having done intensive studies in the emerging fields of Regenerative Leadership, Peace Education, Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Organizational Happiness. She is certified by the Federation of International Gender and Human Rights (FIGHR) as a sexual and gender-based violence peer instructor. As the Community Liaison Officer for the Safe Cycle Initiative by Feminitt Caribbean, she and her teammates as well as the community leaders that they engage with are working towards ending period poverty. She is also the founder and director of I AM HER: Institute of Artivism and Mentorship for Healing, Empowerment, and Regenerative-Education. Kirby is pursuing a Bachelor of Laws at the University of the West Indies and enjoys baking, painting, and dancing in her free time. Her passion for intentional art, mindful education and intersectional community engagement drives her to keep working towards positive change.
She does this while simultaneously expanding and improving her career and lifestyle as a writer, poet, artist and, educator, workshop facilitator and entrepreneur. Her strength areas include public speaking, executive organizing skills, festival co-ordination, communication, team building, social media and brand management, graphic design and leadership. She intuitively uses her writing and creative work as tools of activism and advocacy to advance gender and climate justice, Caribbean consciousness, to celebrate intersectional identity and address humanitarian concerns that move her deeply.

I played a pivotal role in nurturing and developing the literary and spoken word talents of diverse participants. In my capacity as a Senior Literary Teaching Artist, I designed and implemented innovative creative arts curricula tailored to writers of varying skill levels and cultural backgrounds. I facilitated engaging workshops and classes, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that encouraged creative expression and growth. By incorporating diverse literary traditions and techniques, I helped participants expand their writing skills and develop their unique voices.
As a Spoken Word Coach, I mentored and guided aspiring spoken word artists, helping them hone their performance skills and build confidence on stage. I provided constructive feedback and tailored coaching sessions to address individual needs, enabling participants to effectively convey their stories and emotions through the power of spoken word. Throughout my tenure at The Oral Traditions ROOTS Foundation TT, I contributed to the organization's mission by empowering and inspiring a new generation of writers and spoken word artists, celebrating the rich tapestry of cultural backgrounds and experiences within our community.
Main Contributions and Projects:
-Developed and updated teaching programs to be adaptable and appropriate for for youth and individuals of all creative and personal levels to: encourage gender and environmental activism, creative expression and social good, despite their age, nationality or writing skill level. As part of the Project Implementation Team, I developed and facilitated workshops guided by hybrid versions of the curriculum I developed independently as well as those I was introduced to and adapted.
-Developed the Roots & Fruits Workshop and Curriculum : the first spoken word and poetry course within the Foundation designed for local, regional, international audiences of any skill level. Facilitated the workshop to a diverse audience. Created all design assets.
-Spearheaded the spontaneous development of the K.E.G Model in collaboration with colleagues: an innovative poetic form to celebrate and practice effective use of alliteration, sibilance, assonance and consonance
-Developed the MY PIECE ON PEACE Workshop and Curriculum in collaboration with the Rotary Club and Rotaract of Maraval: an individual and community peace centered poetry and personal development course designed for youth age (7-15). Created all design assets. Currently being used in NALIS approved workshop facilitation.
-Facilitated workshops for a 'GPS EmpoWomen Summit', sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) 2021 through the U.S. Embassy Port of Spain, to participants in India, Ghana, Kenya, Bahamas, Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago
-Executively designed and complied 'Global Advocacy Manual' to educate youth in India, Ghana, Kenya, Bahamas, Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago.
-Co-created curriculum and facilitated 'Combatting GBV Through Theatre' Workshops, funded by UWI IGDS and the University of Leicester
-Developed Innovative Poetry and Personal Development Project designed to improve gender relations and encourage youth activism for Season 4 of Abyssinia: A Journey of Change. The project won the UNDP Peace Innovation Challenge 2021.
I successfully executed a range of responsibilities to enhance the organization's visual identity and online presence while working in the Media Department. As the Graphic Designer, I created visually compelling designs for promotional materials, event collateral, and digital content, ensuring consistency with the organization's brand guidelines. I collaborated with the team to develop creative concepts and effectively communicated the NGO's mission and values through my designs. In my role as Brand Manager, I oversaw the development and implementation of the organization's branding strategy, ensuring a cohesive and consistent brand identity across all platforms. I worked closely with internal and external stakeholders to refine the brand's messaging and visual elements, resulting in increased brand recognition and engagement. As the Social Media Manager, I managed the organization's social media channels, including content creation, scheduling, and monitoring. I developed and executed social media campaigns to increase awareness, engagement, and support for the NGO's initiatives. By analyzing performance metrics, I continuously optimized our social media strategy to maximize reach and impact. Throughout my tenure at The Oral Traditions ROOTS Foundation TT, I effectively contributed to the growth and success of the organization by leveraging my skills in graphic design, brand management, and social media management.

I oversaw the planning, organization, and execution of creative arts festivals that celebrated and promoted the rich cultural heritage of Trinidad and Tobago. I was responsible for coordinating with local and international artists, performers, and vendors to ensure that the festivals were engaging, entertaining, and educational for attendees. Additionally, I worked closely with the Foundation's leadership team to develop and implement strategies for expanding the Foundation's reach and impact, both locally and globally. My role required strong project management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a deep passion for promoting cultural diversity and artistic expression.
Main Contributions and Projects:
-Produced, co-hosted and directed 9th and 10th edition of the Foundation's international poetry festival (Cascadoo Festival). Facilitated workshops at these events.

-Oversaw the logistic and creative preparation of Resident Artists for local and international performance opportunities with constructive feedback and creative coaching, weekly creative meet-ups and team building exercises.
I gained valuable experience and insights into the management and operations of a nonprofit organization while actively contributing to its mission. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, I assisted in various aspects of the organization's daily operations, including project coordination, event planning, and administrative tasks. I collaborated with team members to ensure the smooth execution of programs and initiatives, and I played a key role in maintaining effective communication among staff, volunteers, and stakeholders. As an intern at the Office of the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, I worked closely with the Legal Affairs and Public Relations Team of the first female Head of State, since becoming a Republic, Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weeks ORTT. I provided support and assistance to these teams and gained valuable professional guidance. I assisted with legal research and complied documents for ease of analysis. I also reviewed legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and memoranda and learnt the roles the office played in collaborating with Parliament.
In addition to my legal responsibilities, I also assisted with public relations and communications efforts, helping to review communications materials and communicate with the public as a representative of the office. In this role I learnt the value of confidentiality and maintaining trust while still being transparent with those you are serving. Throughout my internship, I was committed to learning and growing as a professional, while also contributing to the important work of the President's office. SOA Caribbean Deep Seabed Mining Art Exhibit (2023)
I was commissioned by the Caribbean Chapter of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance to craft a piece raising awareness about the serious issue of Deep Seabed Mining and advocating against it in order to preserve oceanic life and environmental health by extension . I was invited to perform the piece live at their art exhibit and closing ceremony where other youth artists had art on display and where representatives and supporters of the organization were present. I also produced a video for the piece which was published in the organization’s social media.

As an Artist-in-Residence, led by Jean Claude Cournard, I was able to take my first steps in the world of performance poetry as a career. As an Artist-in-Residence at The Oral Traditions ROOTS Foundation, I had the unique opportunity to immerse myself in the creative process of crafting thought-provoking and socially impact spoken word/slam poetry while contributing to the organization's mission of promoting and preserving the arts.
During my residency, I focused on developing and refining my artistic practice, exploring new techniques and ideas, and producing a body of work that reflected my growth and evolution as an artist. I also had the privilege of collaborating with fellow artists and members of the local, regional and international community, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and inspiration.
In addition to my personal artistic pursuits, I actively engaged with the organization and its programs. I led workshops, participated in panel discussions, and shared my expertise and experiences with aspiring artists and the wider community. My involvement helped to inspire and educate others, while also furthering the Foundation's commitment to nurturing artistic talent and fostering a vibrant arts scene. Throughout my time as an Artist-in-Residence at The Oral Traditions ROOTS Foundation, I not only advanced my own artistic practice but also played a meaningful role in supporting the organization's mission and enriching the cultural landscape of the spoken word community.
